45th Anniversary Celebration - Frances Perkins Scholars Program featuring Dr. Rebecca Brenner Graham and the Frances Perkins Monologues

Frances Perkins Scholars with flowers and purple balloons

Please join the Frances Perkins Scholars (FPs) as we celebrate the 45th anniversary of our program at Mount Holyoke College by honoring our incredible namesake, Frances Perkins. At this year’s BOOM: Community Day, we will kickoff the night with a special dialogue featuring alum, Dr. Rebecca Brenner Graham, author of Dear Miss Perkins: A Story of Frances Perkins’s Efforts to Aid Refugees from Nazi Germany. After the dialogue, there will be a selection of Frances Perkins monologues from FPs who describe our non-traditional journeys that brought us to through the gates of Mount Holyoke. This night is filled with stories of adversity and overcoming, the sharing of works in progress and FPs laughing together while answering questions: Who was Frances Perkins? Who are the FPs today? What brought them to Mount Holyoke?

About the book: A fascinating portrait of the progressive female trailblazer and US Secretary for Labor who navigated the foreboding rise of Nazism in her battle to make America a safer place for refugees. Dr. Rebecca Brenner Graham brings the inspirational story of the first woman to serve in a president’s cabinet and the never-before-told story of her role in saving Jewish refugees during the Nazi regime.
