In this talk, anthropologist Sabra Thorner discusses her recent research in Australia, which focuses on Indigenous Data Sovereignty.

She argues for Indigenous rights to and autonomy and control over data, broadly conceived and qualitatively understood. She will draw from over 15 years' experience with an Indigenous digital archiving project in central Australia, called Ara Irititja, to explore how Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing things can be reflected and amplified in digital environments. Come along for some beautiful pictures, a little bit of storytelling, and an argument for social justice in digital archiving.
