About this Event

The Mount Holyoke College Department of Film Media Theater proudly presents “Antigone” by Sophocles, produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.
In the aftermath of Thebes’ civil war, King Creon declares one brother a hero, the other a traitor, forbidding the burial of the latter under penalty of death. Antigone defies him, determined to honor her brother in God’s name. Their clash drives the tragedy toward its devastating end. This adaptation reexamines the story not as hero versus villain, but as a collision of absolutes: two leaders, both right and both wrong, locked in a battle where vengeance only breeds vengeance. The result is a searing exploration of power, pride, and the price of refusing to yield—a lesson as urgent today as in ancient times.
This production is directed by Michael Ofori. Set Design and Costume Design by Jensen Glick, Lighting Design and Sound Design by Sam Skynner.
