Taking off from a disagreement between Mary Lyon and Class of 1839 abolitionist Lucy Stone as to what materials should appear in the reading room of the Seminary, this talk will look at expressions of dissent over reading matter and more in the history of Mount Holyoke's struggle to get things right.
