Dr. Beatriz E. Balanta, the Senior Academic Coordinator for CET Colombia and Sean McGlynn, CET Institutional Relations Manager for the Northeast share information about the Mount Holyoke approved CET Colombia study abroad students in which students study race, identity, and ethnicity through the Afro-Colombian lens in Cali.
Colombian food will be served!
The program’s curriculum, developed in consultation with Howard University, allows students to examine these dynamics through sociopolitical, economic, artistic, and historical representations of race in Colombia. And with out-of-class learning, local roommates, and direct-enroll classes that put students in a Colombian classroom, students grow their understanding both intellectually and experientially.
On the program, students take a core course CA/SOCI 330 Race and Identities: Debates in the Colombian Context, an elective taught in English at Universidad Autónoma de Occidente: History of Armed Conflict in Colombia, a Spanish language course at their level, and 2-3 of the following electives:
