DESCRIPTION:A reflective creative writing workshop on personal revision.\n\
nIn this workshop\, Mount Holyoke siblings will explore their own personal
stories by examining a value\, belief or practice that they’ve had to u
nlearn. Maybe it’s your definition of success. Your expectations of midd
le age\, or parenthood\, or marriage. Maybe you’re working at the knots
that connect you to privilege or struggling to uproot internalized racism.
What beliefs about your body or your gender have you let go of? What thou
ght patterns are you trying to unlearn but can’t quite shake? We are eac
h our own author and witness to one another. \n\nParticipants will have th
e opportunity to continue with the creative writing piece after Reunion\,
shaping it for a virtual reading event to be held this fall. What you’ll
need: your preferred writing tools (pencil and paper\, pen and ink\, keyb
oard and screen — the choice is yours)\; a curious mind\; a willingness
to reflect. What you won’t need: experience with creative writing. \n\nF
acilitator \nLiz Webber Rose-Cohen ’96 is a creative nonfiction wri
ter who wishes she had known about the transformative power of revision ba
ck when she was at MHC\, mistaking first drafts for final copies and procr
astination for the creative process. These days she holds an MFA in creati
ve nonfiction writing\, an M.S. in adult education\, and develops communic
ations for a community health system in Ohio. She’s also a mom who wishe
s parenting was as easy as it looked from the outside. \n\nModerator\n\nLe
slie Ito ’96 is executive director at Armory Center for the Arts in Pasa
dena\, California\, a leading independent institution for contemporary art
exhibitions and community arts education. Leslie is an arts executive wit
h more than 20 years of leadership and fundraising expertise. Ito's work t
oward cultural "bridge-building" and advocacy underscores her deep commitm
ent to arts equity and access for all people. \n\nOPEN TO ALL classes atte
nding Reunion 2021\n\nReunion registration required to receive passcodes.
