LEAP 2024: Content Creation and Marketing Outreach - Abstracts

Panel 22: Content Creation and Marketing Outreach

Within a digital world, companies in a wide variety of disciplines require a communications team that specializes in media outreach. Our panel investigates the way that jobs in the realm of communications look different across countries and industries, highlighting the importance of promotion, content creation, and professional communication. Our experiences differ greatly in terms of our company’s missions, as our panelists worked in places from humanities-centered nonprofits to biomedical service companies. Attendees can expect to learn about how cross-disciplinary digital marketing can be a way for students to learn important skills such as journalistic writing, social media content creation, event coordination, and more, as well as how these techniques relate to our college experiences and beyond.

Title: Driving Growth in Bio-Tech Medical Devices through Strategic Marketing
At Neo Modulus, the branding strategy was launched and developed by establishing and managing the first three social media accounts on WeChat, TikTok, and Weibo, with end-to-end content production. Video performance metrics such as viewer engagement, click-through rates, and conversion rates were leveraged to inform strategic decisions, improving audience targeting and enhancing product visibility. Collaboration with Key Opinion Leaders and influencer agencies helped create impactful social media content, positioning the company for the 2025 E-commerce market. This presentation will showcase the branding strategies and tactics used, providing insights for students interested in digital marketing and branding in the biotech industry.

Title: Advocacy Through Children’s Literature: Non-Profit Marketing
The Jane Addams Peace Association is a non-profit organization that gives annual book awards to children’s books that represent values of social justice, peace, and global community. My internship over the summer consisted of creating content for our social media platforms and promoting a program called “Books In Their Hands” that provides author visits and books to schools with marginalized populations. I also did some website design, which gave me skills surrounding SEO marketing and working in the back end of WordPress. I was also in charge of writing a monthly newsletter that would be sent out to an audience of teachers, educators, activists, and librarians. My supervisor is an MHC alum, who is the executive director of the company. This internship was entirely remote, which gave me the flexibility I needed to be able to participate but also left me ready to explore new in-person job opportunities.

Title: Television Journalism: I Know What You Should Be Watching
I had the opportunity to work as an editorial intern for TV Guide Magazine, as well as their digital website, TV Insider. Being able to work out of their main New York office was an amazing opportunity to learn about what goes on in a busy journalism space, and I was able to learn from the magazine’s and website’s writers and editors. From writing articles, to shadowing and conducting interviews, I learned what goes into not only being a good journalist, but a trusted tastemaker. I was tasked with assignments such as writing small pieces for the magazine, as well as pitching and writing articles for the TV Insider website. When I wasn’t writing, I was helping with interviews, working in the archive of the magazine’s over 70 years of past editions, and assisting the writers and editors with smaller assignments.

Title: “Understanding Central Banking: Insights from My Internship at Nepal Rastra Bank”
During my summer internship at Nepal Rastra Bank, my primary focus was on understanding the core functions and operations of central banking. I gained hands-on experience in areas such as monetary policy, foreign reserves management, and financial stability. My daily tasks included conducting data visualization, preparing notes, and attending policy discussions. These responsibilities allowed me to apply my academic knowledge of economics while learning how financial policies are implemented in practice. Additionally, I explored topics such as the country’s monetary framework and strategies for managing reserves alongside sustainable financing in the context of Nepal. This internship provided valuable insights into the complexities of central banking and deepened my interest in pursuing a career in economic policy and financial analysis.

Title: The summer my life started to make sense
This summer, I had the opportunity to work as a digital marketing intern at a medical device company for two months. While the role focused on marketing, the experience gave me unexpected clarity about my future career path—one that is completely irrelevant from digital marketing. During this time, I discovered more about my personal strengths, values, and aspirations, helping me better understand what I seek in a professional environment. Beyond building marketing skills, the internship provided a platform for self-reflection and growth, shaping my vision for the kind of career that aligns with who I am.
