A Summer of Science: My Fellowship at the Montshire Museum of Science

As a Donley Fellow at the Montshire Museum of Science, Delilah Kramer spent her summer surrounded by bubbles, bees, and babies! This presentation will cover her day-to-day experience of working at a children's science museum, as well as the action research she conducted on women in STEM in relation to the museum's exhibits. Throughout her fellowship, Delilah led science workshops, took care of the exhibits (including feeding live animals!) and learned about exhibit design. She is excited to share with you what she has learned from a summer filled with science and joy!

Learning at Latham

I spent the summer working as an intern at Latham Centers in Brewster, MA. Latham is a nonprofit residential facility which specializes in care for disabled and traumatized children. They are the leading organization for treatment and management of Prader-Willis Syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting one’s hypothalamus, and thus their ability to regulate their hormones and hunger. In my role as a direct care professional, I worked on the campus with the children as part of the team that facilitated residential programming. This internship was simultaneously one of the most difficult and rewarding experiences I have ever had. I learned an immense amount, ranging from techniques of nonviolent crisis intervention, to the names of different Warrior Cats, and I am delighted to be able to share it all in my presentation!

Learning through Play

At a children's museum in Austin, Texas, I facilitated a summer camp program that is rooted in STEAM, play, and imaginative based learning. I gained confidence in my leadership abilities, as well as skills that I will carry with me into my future teaching career in early education. In this presentation I will dive into what decisions were made to intentionally make learning fun and accessible to every camper. Including the supplies, the set up of the space, the curriculum as well as the day to day decisions that impacted the trajectory of the camp.
