STEM Student Stepping into Community Work (STEM -> SSCW)

I will walk you through my experience working for InReach, an online resource that compiles LGBTQ+ resources spanning across North America. My work included researching local resources and non-profits in the Minneapolis area, and re-verifying resources across America and Canada. Learn how I spoke to different non-profit organizations and how I made new resources easily accessible for LGBTQ+ people across the continent.

Librarianship in a Small Community

During the summer, I had the privilege of interning at the public library in my small, rural hometown. My days were a mix of collaborating with our Youth Librarian to orchestrate engaging family and community-centered initiatives, as well as aiding the library in its meticulous preparations for the upcoming back-to-school season. On alternate days, I diligently assisted patrons, delving into the library's extensive collection to ensure its utmost relevance and utility to the community it served. My internship experience was nothing short of wonderful, affording me a wealth of invaluable insights not only into the world of librarianship, but also into the dynamics of a professional work environment.

Advocacy and Action in Boston City Council

During Summer 2023, I had the opportunity to work as an administrative and publicity intern at Boston City Council. During my hybrid-model internship, I got a lot of amazing hands-on experience working in municipal government while attending community events, learning how to research and write policy, engaging in meaningful bilingual conversations with constituents, and networking with representatives from major news media sources. Following this internship I have learned how to confidently execute independent projects and administrative tasks, effectively network, and how to employ my bilingualism in a professional context. This internship opportunity, which was made possible by the LYNK program, helped me holistically combine my Mount Holyoke education as a Politics and Spanish double major with real world experience and has taught me that whether it be through news-media or government, helping people is my passion!

Let's Get Realistic About Quantum Mechanics

This summer, I provided research support for Mount Holyoke Professor Nina Emery’s book, Philosophical Issues in Quantum Theory, which she is co-authoring with Ned Hall (Harvard University). The book is meant to provide an introduction to the fascinating field of philosophy of quantum mechanics, accessible to undergraduate students without an extensive background in physics. My tasks involved reviewing the manuscript, providing feedback from my perspective as a student, as well as compiling additional reading lists in an annotated bibliography.
