The David Sanford Big Band is a 20-piece big band playing contemporary music in a wide range of styles including big band jazz, free jazz, modern classical, avant-garde, punk rock, and funk, mostly consisting of original works and several arrangements of standards. Recent soloists have included world-renowned improvisers Hugh Ragin, Anna Webber, Ted Levine, Mike Christianson, David Fabris, Geoff Vidal and others. The concert will feature works from their recent album A Prayer For Lester Bowie along with some of the group’s earlier pieces. Sanford is the Elizabeth T. Kennan Professor of Music at Mount Holyoke.
