Both APAU and Growing Vines, a BIPOC environmental justice organization, will have the opportunity to cook and bond with their community at the Betty Shabazz Cultural Center. Students have an option of cooking non meat and/ or dairy dishes at the cultural center, or cooking at another kitchen and bringing their dish. Black cuisine is central to this event, and black students are highly encouraged to cook their own cultural dishes to honor the theme of decolonizing the diet. Non-black POC may also bring their cultural dish to the event. Students who attend the event will be able to learn the integral role black foods play in reshaping our western thought of cuisine and reclaiming heritage.
