As disabled students at Mount Holyoke, Carson, Luz, and Stevie are aware of extensive ableism within the study body, faculty, and institutional as a whole. Their encounters with discrimination occur both in big and small ways throughout every day on campus. However, they are believers that a significant reason for this ableism is a lack of education and awareness. As a result, they have taken on the labor of creating a comprehensive, but non-exhaustive, resource for helping students, faculty, and orgs make their spaces more inclusive. From ways to engage with disabled friends and practices of reinstating autonomy, to event planning and accessibility implementation, they will take time to educate about welcoming disability into many spaces. As representatives of Accessibility Justice Club, they are firm believers that everyone has access needs and thus the centering of disabled life experiences makes spaces more inclusive for everyone. Through this presentation, they encourage everyone at Mount Holyoke to enter disability into their pedagogy. This presentation is particularly important for able-bodied individuals at Mount Holyoke to attend to learn about incorporating disability into their practices of self-care, interpersonal interactions, and engagements with activism. Additionally, this presentation welcomes disabled people who want to add to their repertoire new and productive ways to ask for their access needs to be met, both interpersonally and institutionally.
