Our panel will be exploring the themes of finding success and balance in an unconventional workplace. Although we all had different responsibilities, we discovered the common link of having largely unstructured summer experiences. Whether that be spending a lot of time in a community, or having a self-made schedule, all of our internships were unlike the traditional workplace. Our experiences included aiding students from diverse backgrounds in accumulating cultural capital by creating practical activities and support, aiding in environmental practices by working with communities directly, finding insights through data-oriented research that would inform future nonprofit impact, and using data science to better understand what defines the field itself. Finding clarity in the unstructured was a lesson we all learned this summer.
