Philosophy and Education: A Critical Intersection

In my individual presentation, I will discuss my experience as a research assistant to Professor Nina Emery and my work developing teaching material for use by her and the Department of Philosophy. This material most notably includes a significant annotated bibliography on the ethics of grading, which I compiled over months of research. I also completed sample assignments to be utilized in future iterations of classes taught in the department. These projects both required a great deal of self-guided work and scheduling. In addition, I will share my experience independently writing about the connection between art and the concept of “public philosophy,” and the ways in which art of any type is an imperative educational tool in itself.

Removing Emotional Information from Working Memory

I was part of the emotion and cognition lab at Sun Yat-sen University. My research project looked at the influence of previous information on current working memory performance, or proactive interference. PI refers to how old memories interfere with your ability to encode and retrieve new information. I investigated the role of emotion in mediating PI by adapting the classical Sternberg task and replacing its materials with emotional images. The images included both positive and negative emotions. In the presentation, I will talk about why I did the research, how I conducted the literature review, how I prepared for the experiment, and also share the results.

Summer Time with Special Angles

Present the job description and the main achievement that I have gained from this experience. Starting from the application state, I will illustrate the whole process from sending a request to having an interview with an employee. During the internship, having a positive attitude and responsibility are priorities. Last but not least, building personal skills and relationships is also critical.

Summer Camp in Maine!

This past summer I worked at a summer camp for people with disabilities. My work included helping campers with daily tasks, organizing activities, swimming and boating with campers, and helping to provide a safe and fun filled space. In this presentation, I will be discussing my experience working with campers. Further, I will also be reflecting on my general experience working in a summer camp setting. A major focus of my presentation will be reflecting on the ways in which I grew through this experience and how it frames my goals and interests going forward.
