Activist, Artist, Filmmaker and Storyteller Tourmaline will visit the Mount Holyoke campus to engage in art making and freedom dreaming with community members as part of our TGNC10 year-long celebration. Tourmaline uses freedom dreaming as a tool to manifest change.

About Tourmaline: Featured in Vogue Magazine and Art Basel, Tourmaline’s work attends to the histories of disabled, poor, Black, Queer and Trans elders in order to highlight the capacity of Black queer/trans social life to transform worlds. Her work has been featured at the Brooklyn Museum, Art Basel and in other venues around the world. As a storyteller, she has uplifted the work of queer and trans activists. Her films create dreamlike portraits of gay and trans liberation icons, including Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera (Happy Birthday Marsha), Mary Jones (Salacia, 2019), Miss Major (The Personal Things, 2016), and Egyptt LaBeija (Atlantic is a Sea of Bones, 2017).
