Freedom Dreaming: The Fight for Democracy

This is a past event.

All are invited to join in this timely reflection on efforts by Freedom Riders to fight for democracy. This panel will feature Dave Dennis, Joan Mulholland and other civil rights giants as they share their reflections on being engaged in efforts to register voters during the heart of Jim Crow in the deep South. Many of them faced assaults and attacks and saw friends who were murdered trying to register Black people to vote in Mississippi including the three civil rights workers: James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner. Our panelists walked alongside three leaders we lost this year and a part of this panel will be inviting them to participate in a tribute as they remember Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, Rev. C.T. Vivian and Representative John Lewis. The panel will include remarks by Cheryl Lowery, the President and CEO of the Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights.

It was a thrill to see Dave again. I'd have liked more from the black perspective but otherwise well moderated and interesting.
