Inuk artist, social justice advocate, poet, and public speaker.
Ella Nathanael Alkiewicz, MFA (she/her) is a self-taught poet and visual artist. Her degrees are in teaching, journalism, and nonfiction writing. Alkiewicz, a relocated Labrador Inuk, is a dual citizen and beneficiary of Nunatsiavut Government/kavamanga. She denied her creative side for years and since the pandemic has embraced her true self. The I.Q. principles aid her life, and she wants to share with others what embracing one’s culture feels/looks like.
Since last year, Alkiewicz has her poem and labels published at Smith College Museum of Art about a sculpture carved by a Canadian Inuk woman. Her fifth article was published in Inuktitut of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Ottawa, Canada. Alkiewicz has a painting included in a Middle Reader of Penguin Random House Canada and will be available in July 2025. Alkiewicz opened her small business, Ella Alk Inuk LLC, in Northampton. She teaches/taught, online and in-person, at Lesley University, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the University of Massachusetts Boston, and North American Indian Center of Boston. She sells her acrylic paintings and digital prints at local events, i.e., Native Crossroads Festival and Yet Another Queer BIPOC Pop-up Market. Alkiewicz continues learning her first language, Inuttut, online, and hopes to return to her homeland this summer. She is an Investor with the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce.
