In search of reward: How the brain acquires and maintains drug memories

Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at 1 pm EST

Location: Online via Zoom

Join us for a digital presentation by Associate Professor of Biological Sciences André White, where he will describe the work he conducts with today’s Mount Holyoke College students.

In this session, you’ll:

  • Discover how addictive drugs impact memory and behavior in rodents.
  • Hear about innovative student projects from the substance use disorder course.
  • Understand how this research informs White’s community outreach initiatives.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with important research and its real-world implications.

We will record this event and make the recording available following the event.

Presenter:

Dr. André White, Associate Professor at Mount Holyoke College, first explored the neuroscience behind drug addiction as an undergraduate student researcher at a liberal arts institution. At Dickinson College, he explored the role specific drug receptors played in methamphetamine-induced behaviors in mice. He has not strayed far from his early work, as he currently studies the molecular mechanisms that underlie cocaine-associated behaviors. White's work investigates the complex environmental and genetic factors that modulate addictive behaviors in rodents. He seeks to use his research to inform therapeutic and policy approaches to combating substance use disorder.
