DESCRIPTION:Please join us in welcoming Jean Allman\, J.H. Hexter Professor
  of the Humanities\, Department of History\, Washington University in St. 
 Louis\, who will deliver the 2017 John Lax Memorial Lecture. The title of 
 her lecture is "A Post-Mortem of the African Revolution: Rethinking the Gl
 obal Sixties." The event is free and open to the public.\n\nProfessor Allm
 an’s research and published works include nineteenth and twentieth-centu
 ry African history\, with a focus on gender\, colonialism\, nation\, and t
 he post-colonial state. She is the author of TONGNAAB: The History of a We
 st African God\, published by Indiana University Press in 2005\; “I Will
  Not Eat Stone”: A Women’s History of Colonial Asante (with V. Tashjia
 n)\, published by Heinemann Press in 2000\; and The Quills of the Porcupin
 e: Asante Nationalism in an Emergent Ghana\, 1954-1957\, published by Univ
 ersity of Wisconsin Press in 1993.\n\nProfessor Allman has also edited and
  introduced several collections\, including Fashioning Africa: Power and t
 he Politics of Dress. Allman’s articles have appeared in a number of jou
 rnals\, including the American Historical Review\, Journal of African Hist
 ory\, Africa\, Gender and History\, the International Journal of African H
 istorical Studies\, Journal of Women’s History\, History Workshop Journa
 l and Souls. For six years she edited the Journal of Women’s History wit
 h Antoinette Burton and currently co-edits Ohio’s New African Histories 
 series with Allen Isaacman and Derek Peterson.\n\nShe currently serves as
