Working and interacting with the law can encompass a diverse range of expertise and skills. Our panel consists of five students who delved into internships interacting with law and policy, in both private and public sectors. Three of the panelists worked with law firms, while two panelists worked with policymakers in public office. All of our internships engaged with law and policy despite our different roles. Looking at all our experiences, we learn that there are a wide range of careers in law and public policy that require different skill sets. Meghna served as a legislative intern in a U.S. House of Representatives congressional office. She will be sharing her experience serving the constituents of Massachusetts, researching various policy areas, and understanding the workings of the U.S. legislature during her time on Capitol Hill. Caroline interned at a government law office and was assigned to help on an environmental law lawsuit by analyzing documents, finding facts and evidence that would help support the lawsuit, and overall helping the team. She also had the privilege of attending mediations and depositions.

Diamond worked as a summer analyst at Cornerstone Research, performing economics analysis for litigation cases like antitrust and class-action lawsuits. Her work involved using software like R and SQL to analyze data and review legal complaints. Claire’s journey includes roles as a legal assistant in a law firm, an IPO audit intern in a securities company, and a judicial intern in a labor court. She will introduce the explorations in both legal and financial sectors and how those experiences shape her perspective on the practice of law and its broader implications. Ruoyu worked at the Hong Kong Legislative Council. Her work focused on editing legislative amendments, op-ed, responding to citizens’ complaints, and providing supportive research to legislation. She will introduce how her day-to-day life in the office looks and how the HK LegCo functions.
