This summer, Maria, Emma, Hannah, and Molly uncovered stories of objects collections across three states, including photographs, clothing, dinnerware, paintings, and localized everyday objects. While two students participated in collegiate archival work and two students worked in contemporary museums and historical societies, all four shared a focus on community preservation. With experience in both large curatorial and smaller organizational tasks, students obtained practical experience with hands-on tasks in collections management, preservation, inventory organization, and exhibition installation. Between the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, the Southeast Ohio History Center, and the Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections, presenters discovered the importance of everyday objects and why their stories deserve to be told.
