Speaker: Ysabel Garcia

This presentation covers the multiple effects assimilation can have on the mental health of first-generation Latinx immigrants through the lens of Ysabel Garcia's story, Estoy Aqui LLC Founder.

While listening to Garcia's story, participants will learn about the process of assimilation and internalization of colorism, racial microaggressions, and familism as risk factors for suicidal ideation. Lastly, the concept of community care will be explored as a means of protection against the harms of assimilation on mental health. Participants will be able to interact with the speaker via a Q&A.
