Film Media Theater will be hosting a screening and discussion this April with filmmaker, Kelly Anderson.

As you may know, every spring we host a filmmaker from New Day Films, a filmmaker-run distribution company that promotes non-narrative and social justice works.

Kelly will be screening her latest film, Emergent City, dubbed "a civic epic" that takes a close look at rezoning efforts in Sunset Park, Brooklyn - a microcosm of the city itself - and the local community's struggle with gentrification while trying to hold onto the disappearing manufacturing jobs that were once its livelihood. More broadly, the film is "about how cities evolve, who gets to shape the future of the built environment, how people work within - and outside of - existing systems to try to strengthen and protect their neighborhoods. It’s an investigation of what we mean when we say “the community".
