Creative writing faculty members T Kira Māhealani Madden and Lucas de Lima will read from their recent work.

A book signing by MHC faculty writers, including T Kira Māhealani Madden, Lucas de Lima, and Anna Maria Hong, will follow the event in the Museum lobby courtesy of the Odyssey Bookshop.

Lucas de Lima is a Brazilian-born poet, artist, educator, scholar, and translator. They are the author of Wet Land (Action Books) and Tropical Sacrifice (Birds LLC), forthcoming this year. Their writing has appeared in PEN Poetry, Poetry Foundation, boundary2, Apogee, Syndicate, and Brooklyn Rail. They hold a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and are the recipient of grants and fellowships from the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, Canada Council for the Arts, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

T Kira Māhealani Madden is a Chinese, Kānaka Maoli writer, photographer, and amateur magician. A recipient of fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, Hedgebrook, Tin House, MacDowell, and Yaddo, she serves as the Founding Editor of No Tokens, a magazine of literature and art. She is the author of the 2019 New York Times Editors’ Choice memoir, Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls, which is now being developed as a feature film, and her work has appeared in Harper’s, The Sun, and New York Magazine. A finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the winner of the 2021 Judith A. Markowitz LAMBDA Literary Award, her debut novel, Whidbey, is forthcoming from Mariner/HarperCollins.
