Speakers: Safia Elhillo and Fatimah Asghar

The BOOM Closing Keynote will feature the voices of two incredible activists and writers in dialogue with one another. We are thrilled to welcome Fatimah Asghar and Safia Elhillo to Mount Holyoke College for this virtual event.

This will be an evening of dynamic poetry and reflection with the co-editors of the brilliant anthology, Halal, If You Hear Me. In this book, the collected poems “dispel the notion that there is one correct way to be a Muslim by holding space for multiple, intersecting identities while celebrating and protecting those identities”. In addition to this text, Safia Elhillo is the author of Home is Not a Country and The January Children. Fatimah Asghar is the author of If They Come For Us and co-creator of the webseries, Brown Girls.

This lecture is made possible by the Mary Elizabeth Johnson Lecture Fund, established by Gloria Johnson-Powell '58 in memory of her mother. The fund supports lectures on topics of social justice and human rights.
