About this Event
11 Gateway Road, South Hadley, MA
This panel's speakers worked in educational experiences that strived to foster inclusion of marginalized and underrepresented communities. The speakers strive to take a multicultural, comparative approach, drawing upon their experiences within a K-12 writing development non-profit in San Francisco, California, creating curriculum for an academic immersion progrpm that integrates students of English learning backgrounds onto the Mount Holyoke cpmpus for mentorship, a pro bono teaching progrpm in Yunnan, China, promoting inclusive education in K-12 students, an immigration non-profit in Providence, Rhode Island, and a K-undergraduate students progrpm in schools based in Tokyo, Japan. This panel aims to explore the intersectionality between language and discrimination, discuss how language-related bias can be more effectively combatted, and investigate how education spaces can be made more inclusive and accessible while celebrating the diversity of their students' backgrounds. Come find out how nontraditional education progrpms can combat exclusion and empower the underrepresented students they serve.
