The final event of the annual collegiate poetry competition is the judges’ reading and announcement of the winner. This year’s judges are Fred Moten, Cameron Awkward-Rich, and Kay Gabriel.

The 98th annual Kathryn Irene Glascock ’22 Intercollegiate Poetry Competition invites six student poets to campus to represent their college and compete for the title — and accomplished poets to serve as judges.

Fred Moten works in the Department of Performance Studies in the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. His fields are black studies and critical poetics and his special concern is the entanglement of social movement and aesthetic experiment. Over the last twenty years, Moten has addressed this concern in a number of books of poetry and criticism, the latest of which, co-written with Stefano Harney, is All Incomplete (Minor Compositions/Autonomedia, 2021).

Cameron Awkward-Rich is the author of two collections of poetry, Sympathetic Little Monster (Ricochet Editions, 2016) and Dispatch (Persea Books, 2019), as well as a chapbook, Transit (Button Poetry, 2015). His creative and scholarly work has been supported by fellowships from Cave Canem; The Watering Hole; Duke University's program in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; and the American Council of Learned Societies. Awkward-Rich  eceived a PhD from Stanford University's program in Modern Thought and Literature and he is presently an assistant professor of women, gender, sexuality studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Kay Gabriel is a poet and essayist. With Andrea Abi-Karam she co-edited We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics (Nightboat, 2020). She's the author of two forthcoming collections: Kissing Other People or the House of Fame (Rosa Press, 2021), and A Queen in Bucks County (Nightboat, 2022). Recent writing appears in FENCELit HubSocial Text, and the LA Review of Books. Kay is part of the editorial collective for the Poetry Project Newsletter.

Sponsored by the Katherine Irene Glascock Memorial Fund, the Joyce Horner Poetry Prize, The Charles and Rosanna Batchelor Memorial Fund and the Department of English at Mount Holyoke College.

All events are free and open to the public.
