Digital Marketing for Children and Screens: The Institute of Digital Media and Childhood Development

Over the summer I spent my time as a digital marketing intern at Children and Screens: The Institute of Digital Media and Childhood Development. I created weekly Facebook posts for the organization on a wide variety of topics such as promoting webinars, sharing and dissecting relevant scholarly articles and research, and providing helpful tips for parents as they navigate raising their children in a growing digital world. Gaining skills such as using professional marketing tools, analyzing company data, and perfecting search engine optimization were tremendously helpful for pre-professional development.

Mind your Global Business!

My access to global education and cultural competence began in 2019 when I traveled to Las Tablas, Panama with Global Glimpse. This nonprofit program changed the trajectory of my interests as a rising high school senior. Gaining global awareness, I began approaching many presented topics from an international perspective. My Global Glimpse experience strongly influenced my current career goals. During the summer of 2022, I was honored to be chosen as 1 of 2 Global Education Alumni Interns for Global Glimpse! I was eager to pay forward the opportunity to support current high school students in accessing their global journey. During this internship, I learned that I had a passion for working in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofits provide opportunities and resources that change lives and create equity in lower-income communities. My presentation will discuss my internship responsibilities, as well as what I learned about nonprofits and myself.

Community-Building Through Nonprofit Work in Music

In the summer of 2022, I worked as the Visitor Services Intern at the Caroga Lake Music Festival (CLMF) in the Adirondacks, New York. The CLMF is a five-week music festival put on every summer by the Caroga Arts Collective, a nonprofit organization aiming to revitalize local culture by expanding access to the arts. During my time at this organization, I gained firsthand experience in the work required to operate a nonprofit. I remain particularly interested in the community-building aspect of this work, and witnessed a key connection between our organization and the volunteers whose efforts make the mission of the nonprofit possible. In my presentation, I will discuss what I learned during my internship and how it has influenced my thinking about the work I might pursue in the future.
