About this Event
Join filmmaker, producer, and actor Kristen Lovell for a virtual viewing of their personal documentary “The Stroll.” Her film documents the Black and Latine trans history of New York City in the ‘80s and ‘90s, documenting the personal, financial, and social struggle of trans women fighting for their survival. Survival, the film captivatingly depicts, is possible through community, interpersonal care networks of sisterhood, pride, joy, and shared survival tactics. “The Stroll” also highlights the meat packing industry’s (a neighborhood in Manhattan once a central hub of sex work and slaughterhouses) implicit and insidious destruction of gentrified neighborhoods due to policy and policing. Join the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in this screening and stay for a talk back with Director Lovell.
