In advance of Trans Day of Remembrance (11/20), all members of the MHC Community are invited to join this Trans Day of Remembrance, Resilience, and Resistance memorial and reflective space facilitated by MHC alum and educator, Chelvanaya Gabriel '97.

This event centers the lives of trans and gender non conforming people who have been lost to trauma and violence related to their identities. Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was created in honor of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. Her friend Gwendolyn Ann Smith began an annual event in 1999 to recognize the violent wave of oppression towards TGNC people and challenge the world to end this harm through visible recognition. At Mount Holyoke, we seek to honor and educate by amplifying voices, commemorating the losses and providing space for renewal in a memorial and reflection space.
