FLIP exists to help students find community within an institution that is traditionally affluent and built on legacy. Typically, first generation is defined as someone who doesn't have common knowledge of or much assistance navigating the college experience. In addition, low-income can be determined as someone who lives around or below the poverty line. As a group, FLIP does not have a solidified definition of first generation or low-income because we're aware that individual experiences can change the meaning for each of us. FLIP aims to provide community for people who identify with our mission. We host events and conferences designed to orient our community in addition to increasing awareness of our struggles and successes.
